Werner Pokorny
Born in Mosbach in 1949, the artist Werner Pokorny prefered to work with wood as a material, in outdoor areas with Corten steel. His figures were created by combining simple elements, which he developed into new, independent forms by stringing them together, breaking them through or hollowing them out. 1971-76 studies at the State Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe with Professors Baschang, Kalinowski and Neusel, 1974-76 studies of art history at the University of Karlsruhe and the State Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe, 1989 scholarship from the Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg, 1989-90 guest professorship at the Staatl. Akademie der Bildenden Künste Karlsruhe, 1998 professorship for general artistic education, focus on sculpture, at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart, 2007-2011 chairman of the Künstlerbund Baden-Württemberg, 2013 Hans-Thoma-Preis and prize of the state of Baden-Württemberg for fine arts, 2012-2018 chairman of the Künstlerbund Baden-Württemberg, 2017 Order of Merit of the state of Baden-Württemberg. Werner Pokorny passed away on 31st December 2022 in Ettlingen.
