COLOURED FIELDS – MATHIAS HORNUNG
May 7 – July 16
Mathias Hornung mainly works with wood reliefs, woodcuts and wood sculptures. He started making woodcuts during his stage design studies at the Stuttgart Academy. He still does so today. His work begins with a woodcut and always returns to it.
His wood reliefs are works that you hang on the wall, that are not sculptures but go into the sculptural and work in a very short depth range. Hornung moves in this short, fascinating terrain, in this narrow space that tips back and forth between two- and three-dimensionality and in which the artist can create an incredible depth effect.
