EXHIBITION

Pieces of DOPAMINE

April 20 to June 01, 2024

As identical twins, Kai and Uwe have shared every day, interest, and thought from the very beginning. Growing up in a conservative household, they roamed streets and fields in their early childhood, always in search of something new, undiscovered, and hidden.

Their urge to create something of their own and change their surroundings began with a children’s nature conservation club called Roter Milan, followed by a desire for freedom and independence in a skateboarding gang. Following their inner impulses to express their creativity outwardly, they founded a rock band as teenagers until their minds and fingers finally encountered graffiti and spray cans.

Kai and Uwe found their artistic expression in graffiti and street art in 1998, which continues to this day. They are part of the award-winning artist collective 3Steps. Influenced by the graffiti scene of the 90s and 2000s from Europe’s major cities and New York, the twins developed their own distinctive street art style, a blend of stencil art and wild graffiti writing. Everything that crosses the barriers of Kai’s and Uwe’s inner mindset is painted and tagged and transferred into DOPAMINE. Recently, their series of works attracted attention from well-known brands, art competitions, and the media. They are also the founders of the award-winning RIVER TALES Street Art Festival and operators of the HUETTE38 art hub in Gießen.

Their TRUE DOPAMINE works transport viewers into the world of Fetish Dreams for the first time, an ambivalent interplay between irritation, desire, and eroticism. Love is King – Dopamine is Queen.

The vernissage will take place on Friday, April 19th, from 7 to 9 p.m. at GALERIE ROTHER.
